Day 128 - More Scaffolding Removed

Week 27 - Day 128
The upper levels of scaffolding were dismantled today. The roof and gutters can now be seen easily from the street.

Day 126 - A View From the Roof

Day 125 - Fixing the Chimney Pots

Week 26 - Day 125
New chimney pots fixed in place today to complete works to the roof.

Day 123 - Protective Canopy Removed

Week 26 - Day 123
With the roofing and gutter works now completed the protective canopy can now be removed from over George Street Chapel. The chimney pots can now be put in place as the final piece of work to the roof, after which the upper scaffolding levels will be removed as well.
The protective canopy is removed from over George Street Chapel, Oldham.

Day 118 - Finishing the Roof

Week 24 - Day 118
End of another week and the roof is almost complete. The ridge tiles have been set in place and looking great.

Day 115 - Video of Roofers

Day 114 - Roof Lights Fitted

The new conservation quality roof lights were fitted this morning. the slates are already up to that level on on quarter of the roof.

Day 111 - Roofing Membrane

Week 23 - Day 111
The roofing membrane has now been added in advance of the roofers beginning the task of fixing all the roof slates.

Day 103 - Tilt Fillet

Week 21 - Day 103
Timber arrived today to enable the fitting of a tilt fillet at the end of the rafters. This will help to stop rainwater from running back behind the last slate, and spill water into the gutter.

Day 95 - Rafters Attached to New Stone Gutters

Week 21 - Day 95
The ends of the rafters have been a attached to the new stone gutters and have had small pads of damp-proofing inserted between the timber ends and the stone guttering.
The original kick board still exists on the Jackson Pit elevation. This turns the end slate upwards to stop rainwater from flowing back underneath the slates. Look out for the flashing and felting being added before the slates are fixed in place.

Day 76 - Insulation Added to Roof

Week 17 - Day 76
Insulation is inserted between the ceiling and where the slates will be laid. This has to be done now as there will be no access once the laths are plastered and the roof slates are laid.
Nice to help the building be more economic to run in the future, saving energy and money.

Day 64 - Locating the Skylights

Week 14 - Day 64
Another short week this week, having just had the May Bank Holiday.
But, work carries on apace with the position of the skylights being denoted by the gaps in the ceiling laths.

Day 59 - The Variety of Works to the Roof, Walls, Ceiling, Chapel Floor, Woodwork and the Cellar

Week 14 - Day 59
Work proceeds on the roof, the ceiling, the chapel floor, the woodwork and in the cellar.
The two chimney stacks are almost completely rebuilt.
Repointing to the end gable facing David Street.
Work continues to put up the laths that will hold the lime plaster ceiling.
Boarding is taped down to the chapel floor
to protect the original floor boards.
The pulpit and front of the pews are sanded down now that the
wood graining has been removed.
The damp-proof tanking band is applied to the lower sections
of the outer walls in the cellar.
