Day 118 - Finishing the Roof

Week 24 - Day 118
End of another week and the roof is almost complete. The ridge tiles have been set in place and looking great.

Day 117 - Makers Mark on Cleaned up Ceiling Rose

Week 24 - Day 117
At the beginning of the project the ceiling roses were removed from their position and sent away for cleaning. One was fractured and broke during removal so a new cast has now been made from it.
A makers mark was revealed as all the layers of over-painting were removed.
Any one any ideas about who made it?

Day 116 - First Coats of Lime Plaster to Chapel Ceiling

Week 24 - Day 116
The first coats of lime plaster were applied to the lathes of the chapel ceiling today.

Day 115 - Video of Roofers

The new conservation quality roof lights were fitted this morning. the slates are already up to that level on on quarter of the roof.

Day 112 - Ready for Fixing Roofing Slates

Good old Welsh slate from Penrhyn Quarry being used for the roof of George Street Chapel.

Day 111 - Roofing Membrane

The roofing membrane has now been added in advance of the roofers beginning the task of fixing all the roof slates.

Day 109 - Re-Laying Stone Slabs in Basement

Week 23 - Day 109
The stone floor slabs from the cellar started to be re-layed this week.
The level will be used to measure up the new staircase for construction and fitting.

Day 108 - Preparations for Lime Mortar

Week 22 - Day 108
The deliveries today included bags for the making of lime mortar. Traditional materials for for traditional buildings. More on lime mortar and lath and plaster next week.

Day 106 - Holes Drilled, Flashing Being Prepared tfor Gutters

Week 22 - Day 106
The hole in the end of one run of guttering has been completed. A stainless steel band will help to keep water from spilling over the edge of the stonework.

Day 105 - Linking Stone Rainwater Gutters to Downspouts

The stone gutters are being worked on this week to drill out where the down spouts will be attached.

Update on Restoration of the George Street Chapel Pipe Organ - July 2013

Yvonne Lee, CEO Oldham Age Concern and Maggie Hurley, Community Development Officer visit David Wood Organ Builders on 3rd July to see how the restoration was going of the pipe organ from George Street Chapel.

Day 103 - Tilt Fillet

Week 21 - Day 103
Timber arrived today to enable the fitting of a tilt fillet at the end of the rafters. This will help to stop rainwater from running back behind the last slate, and spill water into the gutter.

Day 102 - Lift

Week 21 - Day 102
Is this half up or half down?

The lift emerges at the chapel floor. It can be seen in the photo below, but eventually will be hidden from the main chapel floor behind a partition, so this modern insertion will not be visible from the chapel area.

Day 101 - Construction of Platform Lift

Week 21 - Day 101
The construction of the platform lift has now started. The framework has been erected, rising from the concrete base in the cellar and rising to the chapel floor. The platform lift has been purchased from Stannah.
