Information posted by the Friends of George Street about events and activities at the former Independent Methodist Chapel at George Street, Oldham by Age UK Oldham. The early posts describe the works to conserve, restore and adapt this Grade ll* Listed Building betwee 2012-13. Restoration works were supported by a grant from the HLF, with match funding from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Challenge Fund, English Heritage and the Architectural Heritage Fund as well as Viridor Credits and Lloyds Bank.

Day 118 - Finishing the Roof

End of another week and the roof is almost complete. The ridge tiles have been set in place and looking great.

Day 117 - Makers Mark on Cleaned up Ceiling Rose
Week 24 - Day 117
At the beginning of the project the ceiling roses were removed from their position and sent away for cleaning. One was fractured and broke during removal so a new cast has now been made from it.
A makers mark was revealed as all the layers of over-painting were removed.
Any one any ideas about who made it?

Day 106 - Holes Drilled, Flashing Being Prepared tfor Gutters

The hole in the end of one run of guttering has been completed. A stainless steel band will help to keep water from spilling over the edge of the stonework.

Day 103 - Tilt Fillet

Timber arrived today to enable the fitting of a tilt fillet at the end of the rafters. This will help to stop rainwater from running back behind the last slate, and spill water into the gutter.

The lift emerges at the chapel floor. It can be seen in the photo below, but eventually will be hidden from the main chapel floor behind a partition, so this modern insertion will not be visible from the chapel area.

Day 101 - Construction of Platform Lift
Week 21 - Day 101
The construction of the platform lift has now started. The framework has been erected, rising from the concrete base in the cellar and rising to the chapel floor. The platform lift has been purchased from Stannah.
