Continuing the preparation of all the woodwork.
The stained top rail for the safety rail awaits completion on Monday.

FOGS Visit to Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum of Primitive Methodism

Today the Friends of George Street visited the Museum of Primitive Methodism at Englesea Brook Chapel, Cheshire.
It was a frosty morning at -3 degrees but we had a warm welcome by Dr Jill Barber the Project Director.
The new wheelchair access constructed at Englesea Brook.

Day 200 - Fixing the Front Step

Week 40 - Day 200
The supporting structure for the front steps needed completely replacing. The iron bar was corroded. With a new steel girder in place the brickwork to support the stone steps to the front door can now be built up. The stone is ready to be put in place next week.

Day 199 - Cleaning up Floorboards - Vacuuming

Extreme vacuum cleaning after cleaning up the chapel floor. The pews are cleaning up nicely as well.

Day 197 - Cleaning up Floorboards

Week 40 - Day 197
The original chapel floorboards have started to be cleaned up. They had been covered over by a lighter coloured maplewood boarding in the 1990s.

Day 196 - Access to 58 George Street

Week 40 - Day 196
Though the door into 58, George Street has had to be sealed up (the gents toilets are down there now) the steps from the street are still there and are being tidied up.
The font steps to the chapel still need to be rebuilt above once a new steel support is put in place.

Day 195 - Relaying Blocks to Rear

Week 39 - Day 195
At the rear in Jackson Pit the blocks were being relaid today having lifted them, broken up the concrete, laid new drainage and sewerage and made good the ground.

Day 194 - Preparations in the Preparation Areas

The old vestry spaces are to be used for food preparation and washing-up areas.
Electrics are being inserted ready for the delivery of appliances.

Day 192 - Front Steps

Week 40 - Day 192
The front steps were removed today to be refurbished and to replace the support structure.
the block door way used to be to cellar dwelling with the address 58, George Street. The other three cellars were accessed from Jackson pit at the rear.

Day 191 - Pointing in the Rain

Week 40 - Day 191
Wet day again today. The fresh pointing has had to be protected from the wet to stop the lime mortar from washing out and staining the bricks. Probably without time constraints this would have been put off until a drier day, but we are working towards an end date of mid-December.

The works to connect up the drainage get down to the the connecting phase, unfortunately its been raining again this week!

Day 188 - Breaking Ground for Drainage

The area below where the cabins stood have been broken up to allow the new drainage services to be put in.

Day 187 - Site Cabin Removed

Week 39 - Day 187
The site cabin was removed today. Always a sign that the project is coming to an end. But also required because the drainage and sewers need to be connected up.
The site office has been moved up to the gallery level of the chapel.
